Sofia Prosecutor's Office appeals early release of Kristian Nikolov
The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has filed an appeal against a Sofia City Court decision to grant early parole to Kristian Nikolov. Nikolov is serving a sentence for a fatal car accident that resulted in the death of journalist Milen Tsvetkov.
The court previously ruled that the 28-year-old had shown signs of rehabilitation, acknowledged his guilt, and posed no further danger to society. However, prosecutor Nikolay Nikolaev stated that the evidence does not convincingly prove Nikolov has been reformed. He noted that while there has been some adjustment toward socially acceptable behavior, the prison administration has repeatedly expressed opinions that the convict has not yet been rehabilitated.
Nikolov will remain in custody until the Sofia Appellate Court reviews the protest. If the appeal is upheld, he will continue his sentence and may apply for parole again at a later date.
