Sofia protesters demand justice in Evgenia Vladimirova murder case
Dozens of citizens and relatives gathered to protest in front of the Court Chamber in Sofia, demanding justice in the murder case of 33-year-old Evgenia Vladimirova. The demonstration took place ahead of a critical hearing at the Supreme Court of Cassation (SCC).
The case dates back to October 2021, when Vladimirova disappeared from her home in Sofia. Investigations revealed she was murdered in her residence, after which her body was placed in a suitcase and discarded near a reservoir in the Pernik region. Prosecutors alleged that her husband, Orlin Vladimirov, used spy cameras and listening devices in children's toys to monitor her prior to the crime.
While a Sofia city court and an appellate court previously handed down life sentences to both Orlin Vladimirov and his father, Plamen Vladimirov, the Supreme Court of Cassation recently annulled the appellate decision due to procedural violations. Protesters are now calling for the case to be retried and are demanding life imprisonment for the perpetrators, expressing deep distrust in the judicial system following recent legal developments.
