Sofia Raffaeli recovers after motorway accident

Italian rhythmic gymnastics star Sofia Raffaeli has returned home following a road accident on the A14 motorway. The incident occurred between the Forlì and Cesena exits while Raffaeli was traveling in a vehicle provided by the Italian Gymnastics Federation, returning from the World Championships in Frankfurt.

The vehicle collided with a truck, causing significant concern due to the violence of the impact. Raffaeli, who was traveling in the rear seat, was transported to a hospital for medical examinations and treatment. She sustained only superficial injuries to her arm and some bruising.

Following medical clearance, the 22-year-old athlete has been discharged. Her club, Ginnastica Fabriano, confirmed she is doing well. Raffaeli, who recently secured silver in the hoop and bronze in the all-around at the World Championships—effectively qualifying for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics—is expected to resume training once she has completed a period of physiological recovery.
