Sofia residents face two-week hot water outage for maintenance

Toplofikacia Sofia has announced a large-scale planned maintenance project at the Sofia East heating district, which will result in a temporary suspension of hot water services for numerous residential areas and key institutions. The maintenance period is scheduled from August 28 to September 13, 2026.

Extensive residential neighborhoods affected include Mladost (1, 1A, 2, 3, and 4), Druzhba (1 and 2), Studentski Grad, Iztochn, Izgrev, Dianabad, Musagenitsa, Polygana, Vitosha, Malinova Dolina, Dervenitsa, Hladilnika, Hristo Smirnenski, and Geo Milev. Portions of the Lozenets district, Yavorov, and the industrial zone near Iskar Station will also experience outages.

Significant institutions impacted by the shutdown include the Lozenets University Hospital, the U.S. Embassy, the Sofia Zoo, and several research facilities within the Vrania complex, including sites for the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH).

The company stated that the work involves replacing worn-out fittings and inspecting primary facilities to ensure the reliability of the heating network and prevent accidents during the 2026/2027 heating season.
