Sofia school official appointed deputy director following camera scandal

Aleksandar Evtimov, the former director of the 138th SUZIE ‘Prof. Vasil Zlatarski’ in Sofia, has been appointed as deputy director at the 141st OU ‘Narodni Buditeli’. This appointment follows a scandal involving the discovery of cameras in the toilets of his previous school. Evtimov was detained late last year and later released on bail, though he denies responsibility for the devices, suggesting they may have been installed around 2017.

The appointment was made during the summer by the former director of 141st OU, Virginia Zarkova, who resigned on September 9. Evtimov was listed on the school website under the name Aleksandar Lyudmilov, though this information has since been removed.

Education Minister Georgi Valchev and the Sofia Regional Management of Education (RUO) have confirmed the situation. The Minister expressed disapproval of the case, and RUO-Sofia-City has launched an urgent investigation into the appointments made during the summer to ensure legal compliance and the stable functioning of the school.
