Sofia village inaugurates new volunteer firefighter station

A new volunteer firefighter and rescuer station has been inaugurated in the village of Sofia, located in the Drochia district of Moldova. The facility is designed to serve over 3,800 residents and neighboring localities, providing faster response times for fires, accidents, and other emergency situations.

The station will be staffed by seven community volunteers trained by specialists from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU). These volunteers are tasked with providing initial intervention and first aid until professional crews arrive on the scene.

The project was made possible through the support of the Solidarity Fund PL and partners from Poland as part of the ‘EU4Moldova: Resilience – Safe State, Resilient Communities’ project, alongside the involvement of the Sofia Mayor's Office. This marks the 87th rescue and firefighter station in Moldova and the 28th organized on a volunteer basis.
