Sofija Kordić presents new novel in Podgorica
Author and journalist Sofija Kordić presented her new novel, “Smrt bez samoglasnika” (Death Without Vowels), at the KIC Budo Tomović in Podgorica. The book, published by Jesenski i Turk, explores themes of loss, suicide, friendship, and mental health.
Kordić described the novel as an intimate story written in a dialogue format between a narrator and a deceased friend. This narrative structure allowed the author to express unspoken words and process personal experiences of loss. During a discussion with writer Nikola Nikolić, Kordić addressed the boundaries of autofiction, noting that personal experiences inevitably pass through a creative filter to become fiction.
The author explained that the title reflects her perception of death as something heavy and harsh, whereas vowels represent light and clarity. She noted that the writing process was challenging due to the emotional weight of the subject matter.
