Soft Cell releases final album ‘Danceteria’

The electronic duo Soft Cell has released a new album titled ‘Danceteria’, which serves as a reflective and nostalgic look back at the group’s connection to New York City in the early 1980s. The album follows their 2022 release, ‘Happiness Not Included’.

This release marks the final work from the duo following the death of keyboardist David Ball in October 2025, shortly after he completed the final mixes. The album is described as a bittersweet and celebratory project that revisits themes from their early career, including tracks inspired by locations like Times Square and the Danceteria club. While maintaining their signature dark synth-pop sound, the music is noted for a sense of warmth and optimism compared to their previous cynical works. The album concludes with a cover of ‘Out Come The Freaks’ by Was (Not Was).
