Soft Cell releases final album ‘Danceteria’ following death of David Ball

The legendary synth-pop duo Soft Cell is releasing its sixth and final album, titled ‘Danceteria’. The release serves as a farewell to the musical scene following the death of longtime partner David Ball, who passed away at age 66 after years of health issues.

Marc Almond noted that the album was completed just days before Ball’s death. The project, which was originally intended for a spring release, offers a nostalgic and romanticized vision of the 1980s New York nightclub scene. The 14-track album includes the title track and a remake of Was (Not Was)’s ‘Out Come the Freaks’ featuring Nona Hendryx.

Formed in Leeds in 1979, Soft Cell rose to global fame with their cover of ‘Tainted Love’. This final work marks the conclusion of a career that saw multiple reunions and significant chart success.
