Softball popularity grows in Varese through Varese Family club
Softball is experiencing growing popularity in the Varese region of Italy, particularly through the Varese Family club led by president Ricardo Acevedo Montero. The club's field in San Fermo has become a significant gathering point for the local Dominican community.
While women currently make up the majority of practitioners in the area, the sport is expanding. President Acevedo Montero announced that a new baseball team dedicated entirely to children will launch this April.
Softball, which returned to the Olympic program at Tokyo 2020, is noted for being a more accessible variant of baseball, featuring a larger, lighter ball and underhand pitching. The sport has established roots in the Alto Varesotto area since 2011, with high-level female competition occurring across the Saronnese and Altomilanese regions.
