SoftBank to complete $10 billion OpenAI investment tranche

SoftBank Group Corp. is preparing to complete the third and final $10 billion tranche of its $30 billion follow-on investment commitment to OpenAI Group PBC. The payment is expected to close on October 1, 2026.

To fund this final installment, SoftBank disclosed the issuance of five tranches of foreign currency-denominated senior notes totaling $11.1 billion (approximately JPY 1,763.2 billion). The proceeds are designated for the OpenAI payment and general corporate purposes.

The timing of this massive liquidity decision coincides with market volatility in the technology and semiconductor sectors, characterized by rising yields and downward pressure on growth-oriented stocks. This includes recent significant declines in the share price of Arm Holdings.
