Soga student leads Fiestas Patrias celebration in rural Chile
In the remote village of Soga, located in the Huara commune of Chile's Tarapacá Region, the local community gathered to celebrate Fiestas Patrias. The event centered around Yoel Montaño Rojas, a sixth-grade student and the sole pupil enrolled at the Soga Basic School, a single-teacher institution.
During the celebration, Montaño performed a variety of cultural presentations, including reciting traditional poems, dancing the cueca, and singing in the Aymara language. The performance aimed to blend national patriotic values with the ancestral heritage of the Altiplano.
Following the school activities, the community held a neighborhood parade on the main street. The festivities concluded with a communal lunch involving local residents, families, and authorities, serving to strengthen social ties within the isolated rural settlement.
