Sogas airport scandal: €12 million court order, Catalfamo urged to quit

A civil court in Catanzaro sentenced several former managers and auditors of the former airport operator Sogas to pay a total of €12.3 million in damages to the bankruptcy trustee. The judgment, issued after a ten‑year investigation, holds the ex‑directors and members of the supervisory board responsible for alleged accounting fraud, mismanagement of funds and failure to secure the airport’s operating licence.

Former parliamentarian Federica Dieni, who had repeatedly warned about the company’s mismanagement, welcomed the ruling and called for the resignation of Domenica Catalfamo, now an assessor in Reggio Calabria, arguing that she should step down immediately. Dieni also urged mayor Francesco Cannizzaro to revoke Catalfamo’s delegations if she does not resign voluntarily. The case highlights longstanding governance failures at the Reggio Calabria airport and the ongoing political fallout in the region.
