Sogin and Nucleco facilities in Rome open for research tours
Sogin and Nucleco are offering final registration opportunities for tours of their facilities at the Casaccia Research Center in Rome. These visits are part of the European Researchers' Night, an initiative promoted by the European Commission.
Participants can choose from three distinct one-hour tours. Two routes are located at the Sogin Opec plant, including the Opec-1 facility, which features simulations of irradiated nuclear fuel manipulation, and the Opec-2 deposit, which demonstrates radioactivity measurement and the use of containment tents during component dismantling. The third route is at Nucleco, focusing on laboratory areas, radiological characterization, and the management of radioactive waste from decommissioned nuclear plants, medicine, and industry.
Registration closes on Monday, September 21, via the respective company websites. Two of the three tours are open to minors aged five and older when accompanied by an adult. The initiative aims to promote scientific dissemination and encourage interest in STEM disciplines among younger generations.
