SOGOB hosts workshop in Tenkodogo to combat postpartum hemorrhage

The Société des gynécologues et obstétriciens du Burkina (SOGOB) held a capacity-building workshop in Tenkodogo on August 6-7, 2026, to combat postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), a leading cause of maternal mortality.

In Burkina Faso, PPH accounts for approximately 30% of maternal deaths. While maternal mortality has decreased by about 32% over the last two decades, the current rate remains at 198 deaths per 100,000 live births, significantly higher than the Sustainable Development Goal target of fewer than 70 per 100,000.

The workshop trained 32 midwives from the Fada N’Gourma, Manga, and Tenkodogo zones. The initiative aims to strengthen the role of midwives, who are on the front lines of delivery rooms, by improving their clinical management skills and their ability to act as advocates for community mobilization and social awareness regarding maternal health.
