Sohail Afridi and senior PTI leaders taken into protective custody

Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and several senior leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been taken into protective custody and are being held at an undisclosed location.

The operation began on October 11 in Peshawar. Reports indicate that police officers entered the Chief Minister's House and broke open the door to Afridi's locked room while he was alone. During the detention process, officers reportedly held a 30 to 45-minute conversation with Afridi. While he was described as anxious, sources noted he was treated with dignity, was not handcuffed, and was not placed in a standard prisoner transport vehicle.

In addition to Afridi, KP Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, PTI leader Junaid Akbar, and former Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid were detained at the Speaker's House. The detainees had their mobile phones and personal belongings confiscated.

Afridi reportedly told officials that the party's planned long march was not intended to reach Islamabad and that he was awaiting instructions to cancel the march following discussions between the federal government and Maulana Fazlur Rehman. He also claimed the government had agreed to demands regarding a meeting with PTI's founder and hospital transfer arrangements.
