Sohail Afridi faces legal challenge and leaked audio allegations

A leaked audio recording has surfaced purportedly featuring former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur threatening to expose his successor, Sohail Afridi. In the recording, Gandapur accuses Afridi of being “managed” through a political deal and claims he obstructed meetings between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s daughter. Gandapur further alleged that Afridi failed to lead planned protests in November 2025 due to this alleged arrangement.

Simultaneously, the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan has scheduled a hearing to challenge Afridi’s appointment as KP Chief Minister. The petition, filed by Sher Afzal Marwat, argues that the appointment is legally invalid.

Amidst these political tensions, Afridi has claimed that an assassination attempt was foiled in Wazirabad, alleging an armed man in plain clothes was caught by his security team. However, the Punjab government has rejected these claims, stating the individual detained was a police constable on security duty.
