Sohail Afridi's brother moves court seeking recovery of former K-P Chief Minister
The brother of former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has filed a petition in the Peshawar High Court seeking his immediate recovery and an independent judicial inquiry into his disappearance. Muhammad Aamir alleges that Afridi was abducted by armed, masked individuals, a move he claims violates fundamental constitutional rights.
The legal action follows the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in the province on October 11, which ended the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led provincial government and transferred authority to Governor Faisal Karim Kundi. The emergency was declared amid a deteriorating law and order situation during a PTI protest march led by Afridi.
While the petition describes an illegal abduction, the federal government has stated that Afridi and certain cabinet members were placed in preventive or protective custody rather than being under arrest. The petitioner is seeking clarification on Afridi’s exact location, the identity of those holding him, and the legal authority behind his detention.
