Soho House Shoreditch venue under food safety investigation
Hackney Council has launched an investigation into food safety and hygiene at Shoreditch House, a London location of the private members club Soho House. The probe follows allegations from a former staff member, Kamran Khan, regarding the presence of rats and the practice of re-labelling out-of-date food.
Khan alleged that he was pressured to replace labels on prepared food that had not been sold by the end of the day. He claimed that during a probation meeting, he was told that failing to change labels on his own initiative would be viewed as a performance concern. While Soho House stated that re-labelling unsold food is not company policy and described the incident as isolated, the company acknowledged that an internal investigation found evidence to support Khan's claims regarding food labelling.
Khan's employment was terminated in September, two months after he first raised these concerns. Soho House maintains that his dismissal was unrelated to his complaints. The company has not commented on the allegations regarding rats at the venue.
