Sokoto and Zamfara states begin 2027 budget preparations

Sokoto and Zamfara states in Nigeria have commenced preparations for their 2027 fiscal year budgets, employing different approaches to planning and public engagement.

In Sokoto, the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning has begun reviews with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Commissioner Dr. Bashir Muhammad Achida stated that budget proposals must be based on accurate data and aligned with Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s 9-Point SMART Agenda. The ministry aims to enforce budget discipline, eliminate wasteful or duplicative projects, and ensure all spending is results-driven.

In Zamfara, the government has initiated a series of town hall meetings across the three senatorial districts—Zamfara Central, North, and West—to prepare the 2027 Annual Budget Estimate. Commissioner for Budget and Planning Professor Yahaya Zakari noted that these consultations are intended to foster transparency and ensure the budget reflects the actual needs of the citizens, following the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal.
