Sokoto ADC candidate appoints former PDP chairman as campaign DG

Muhammad Bello Aliyu Goronyo, the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State, has resigned from the party, citing “purely personal” reasons. His resignation, effective August 31, 2026, follows a period of leadership crisis and factionalization within the state chapter of the PDP.

Shortly after his departure from the PDP, Goronyo was appointed as the Director-General of the campaign organization for Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for the 2027 Sokoto State election. Dan’iya described Goronyo as a seasoned politician and former commissioner whose experience in grassroots mobilization and public administration will be vital for the ADC campaign.

In a separate development, Dan’iya expressed support for Atiku Abubakar’s proposal to reopen Nigeria’s land borders. Dan’iya noted that reopening the borders with the Niger Republic would provide economic relief to border communities in Sokoto by restoring legitimate cross-border trade, which is essential for local farmers, traders, and transporters.
