Sokoto State allocates N6bn for three mega schools
The Sokoto State Government has allocated over N6 billion to construct three mega schools aimed at reducing overcrowding and improving access to quality basic education. One school will be built in each of the state’s three senatorial districts at a cost of N2 billion per facility.
Each mega school is planned to include 60 classrooms, residential quarters for school leadership, a playground, a shopping complex, an ICT centre, and a medical facility. The initiative follows study tours of educational facilities in Borno, Yobe, and Kaduna states.
Alhaji Umaru Nagwari Tambuwal, Chairman of the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), noted that the project seeks to address high pupil-to-teacher ratios, which in some schools have reached 85 pupils per teacher, compared to the international standard of 25. Contracts for the construction are expected to be awarded within one to two weeks.
