Sokoto State awards 1,365km of rural road contracts
The Sokoto State Government has awarded contracts for 1,365 kilometres of rural roads across 23 Local Government Areas. An additional 530 kilometres have been identified for future execution, bringing the total planned road infrastructure under the current administration to 1,895 kilometres.
According to Malami Muhammad Galadanchi, Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Rural Roads, the projects are being implemented through three categories: asphalt, surface dressing, and feeder roads. These works are at various stages, with some roads already commissioned, some awaiting commissioning, and others currently under construction.
Specific projects include the 9.5-kilometre Gada-Illah-Gari-Dutse-Tabanni road and over 100 kilometres of roads in the Tambuwal Local Government Area, such as the 23-kilometre Dogondaji-Nabaguda-Yagawal-Tambuwal road. The administration is also constructing three modern markets in Illela, Gada, and Bodinga, which will include grain markets and abattoirs to support rural economic activity.
