Sol Phenduka apologizes for insensitive jokes regarding missing runner

Podcaster Sol Phenduka has issued an apology following backlash over insensitive jokes made during an episode of ‘Podcast and Chill with MacG’. The comments, made while discussing the disappearance of Elizabeth ‘Tsontso’ Moselakgomo, included a pun regarding her running routine and race number.

At the time of the recording, Moselakgomo was reported missing in Kempton Park. Her body was subsequently discovered and identified by her family on 14 September 2026. The remarks drew widespread criticism on social media, with many accusing the hosts of being insensitive to the ongoing investigation and the broader context of high femicide rates in South Africa.

In a video apology, Phenduka described his comments as an ‘unfortunate pun or joke’ that was ‘distasteful’ given the traumatic nature of the situation. He expressed regret to the victim's family and the public, stating that he would never intentionally make light of such a tragedy and reaffirmed his stance against gender-based violence.
