Solana blockchain announces quantum‑resistant Quantumglow and Alpenglow consensus upgrades

Anza, a developer‑focused company working on the Solana blockchain, has introduced Quantumglow, a cryptographic proposal that adds quantum‑resistant signatures to Solana’s existing Alpenglow protocol. The upgrade is intended to protect the network against future quantum‑computing attacks while preserving Solana’s high‑speed performance. Quantumglow remains in the research phase with no firm release date.

Solana’s Alpenglow upgrade, described as the largest consensus overhaul in the platform’s history, is slated for staged rollout between August and October 2026. It will reduce transaction finality from roughly 12.8 seconds to 100‑150 milliseconds, introduce the Votor voting system and the Rotor data‑propagation component, and lower the minimum profitable stake, opening validation to smaller operators. Together, the upgrades aim to boost security, capacity and speed to support sophisticated global financial transactions.
