Solana Firedancer team implements SOL burn to reduce AI-generated bug reports

Developers of Firedancer, the Solana validator client built by Jump Crypto, have introduced a new requirement for security researchers to burn 1 SOL (approximately $100) per bug bounty submission. This policy aims to curb a surge of low-quality, AI-assisted reports that have overwhelmed engineers.

During a recent security competition, researchers submitted 809 reports, resulting in 127 unique security issues. Nearly half of the valid reports were duplicates, a trend Jump Crypto attributes to the ease of using AI to identify potential vulnerabilities. The influx of reports, which peaked at 299 open submissions, delayed the investigation and resolution of genuine security flaws.

The 1 SOL fee is non-refundable and is permanently removed from circulation; no entity, including Jump Crypto, profits from the burn. While reports submitted without the burn can still be reviewed, they will not be eligible for payouts. To balance this deterrent, Jump Crypto is doubling standard rewards until November 20, 2026, with even higher incentives for vulnerabilities found in the Alpenglow consensus system.
