Shinhan tests KRW tokenized fund on Solana amid Bitcoin rally

Shinhan Asset Management has entered a four-party memorandum of understanding with the Solana Foundation, Etherfuse, and Orca to develop a proof-of-concept for a Korean won (KRW)-denominated tokenized fund. Modeled after BlackRock’s BUIDL fund, the pilot program aims to test the complete lifecycle of a tokenized investment, including investor onboarding, KYC/AML compliance, issuance, and on-chain liquidity design. The proposed fund will be backed by an ultra-short-term Korean won bond fund.

This initiative comes as the Real World Asset (RWA) market, currently valued at approximately $36 billion, is projected by BCG to potentially reach $30 trillion. The project seeks to prepare for South Korea’s upcoming security token regulatory framework.

Simultaneously, the broader cryptocurrency market is experiencing significant volatility and growth. Bitcoin has seen a major rally, recently touching $79,455, driven by a massive short squeeze and favorable macroeconomic signals. A key driver for this liquidity surge is the U.S. Treasury’s announcement that it will double its long-term bond buybacks, increasing the maximum amount per operation from $2 billion to at least $4 billion to stabilize market yields. This move, combined with regulatory optimism surrounding the CLARITY Act, has bolstered investor confidence across digital assets.
