Solange Pessoa debuts first Spanish exhibition at Centro Botín

The Centro Botín in Santander has inaugurated ‘Del día o de la noche’, the first Spanish exhibition by Brazilian artist Solange Pessoa. The showcase features seven large-scale installations that explore the duality between light and darkness, the delicate and the overwhelming.

Pessoa’s work is described as visceral, utilizing natural materials such as hair, leather, and earth to connect with memory and history. Her pieces often draw inspiration from her home region of Minas Gerais, incorporating elements like sand and dust from local mines. One notable installation, ‘Catedral’, consists of 100 meters of leather and human hair entwined with a horse’s halter.

The exhibition, which runs until March, aims to provoke sensory connections rather than purely intellectual interpretations, blending themes of the baroque, the colonial, and the biological.
