Mosor hosts record 1,600 visitors for eclipse and Perseids

A significant astronomical event occurred as observers in the region witnessed a combination of a partial solar eclipse and the Perseid meteor shower.

In the Mosor Star Village, a record 1,600 visitors gathered to observe the celestial phenomena. The program included a partial solar eclipse and views of Saturn with its moons. Dr. Mateja Dumbović from the University of Zagreb provided a scientific lecture on solar flares to a full audience. Following the lecture, clear skies allowed observers to see approximately one hundred meteors per hour from the Perseid shower.

Astrophysicist Samo Stanič described the eclipse as a unique blend of science and beauty, noting that in Slovenia, the event appeared as a partial eclipse where the Moon seemed to travel across the Sun's surface. The Perseids themselves are caused by Earth passing through debris left by a comet, with particles entering the atmosphere at speeds of approximately 60 kilometers per second.
