Solar energy adoption and new electricity pricing models

Rising energy prices and geopolitical tensions in the global gas market are driving interest in solar self-consumption in Spain. In regions like Navarra, businesses and citizens are increasingly adopting solar panel installations to reduce dependence on external electricity suppliers and mitigate the impact of rising utility bills. Experts suggest that combining solar production with energy storage can multiply economic savings and provide greater control over energy costs.

In Australia, a different approach to managing solar surplus is being implemented through the ‘Solar Sharer Offer’. In parts of New South Wales, South Australia, and Queensland, electricity providers offer up to three hours of free electricity daily during peak solar generation periods (typically between 11:00 and 15:00). This initiative aims to shift household consumption to hours when solar energy is most abundant, helping to balance the grid. To ensure sustainability, the free electricity is capped at 24 kWh per day, a limit intended to cover the needs of a typical five-member family.
