Solar energy advancements focus on industrial storage and perovskite stability

Developments in solar energy technology are advancing through both industrial application and scientific research. Industrial companies are increasingly investing in private solar parks paired with energy storage systems, such as industrial batteries. This model allows businesses to generate their own electricity and store excess energy for use during peak demand periods, reducing dependence on fluctuating market prices and stabilizing operational costs.

In the scientific sector, researchers at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) have published a solution in 'Nature Communications' to address a major hurdle in perovskite solar cell commercialization. While perovskite cells are cheaper and more flexible than traditional silicon modules, they have historically suffered from instability when exposed to moisture, heat, and oxygen. KTU scientists have developed a more stable connection between the different layers of the solar cell, utilizing self-assembling monolayers (SAM) to act as molecular glue, thereby improving the longevity and efficiency of the devices.
