Solar energy and agricultural investments drive climate action

The Drawdown Project, an independent organization focused on climate action, has released a new tool to compare the impact of various emission-reduction strategies. According to the project's findings, scaling up industrial solar power production by 13 to 16 times by 2050 could reduce global emissions by 15 to 19 percent. Additionally, increasing small-scale solar production for homes and businesses could lead to a total reduction of up to one-fifth of global emissions.

In Finland, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has announced an increase in investment funding for farms due to higher-than-expected demand. To ensure continuity through the 2023–2027 period, funds are being reallocated from environmental compensation and organic production measures toward energy, environmental, and animal welfare investments.

Specifically, 25 million euros will be added to environmental and sustainable production investments, 18 million euros to competitiveness and modernization, 12 million euros to energy investments, and 3 million euros to animal welfare and biosecurity. The surge in energy-related investments is driven largely by rising energy prices and increased interest in solar panels and biogas production.
