Solar energy expansion focuses on EV charging and public buildings

Developments in solar energy utilization are focusing on both residential efficiency and public infrastructure. In Germany, a study by the HTW Berlin research group on solar storage systems found that, on average, 53 percent of electric vehicle charging energy comes from residential solar roofs. The study notes that using a Wallbox with surplus regulation can increase the solar share of charging energy by an additional 25 percentage points, allowing homeowners to save nearly 30 cents per kilowatt-hour by avoiding grid power.

In Austria, the state of Tirol is expanding its photovoltaic capacity through a sustainability and climate strategy. More than 60 PV systems are currently operating on state-owned buildings, generating approximately 4.4 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually, which covers the needs of about 980 households. A new project at Landhaus 1 in Innsbruck, implemented via a contracting model with TINEXT, aims to contribute to a total annual production of up to 104,000 kilowatt-hours. The state intends to equip all suitable state buildings with photovoltaics by 2030.
