Solar energy expansion grows in Washington and U.S. schools

Renewable energy initiatives are expanding across the United States, highlighted by the inauguration of the Ostrea Solar plant in Yakima County, Washington. Developed by Cypress Creek Energy with an investment of approximately $180 million, the facility aims to provide clean electricity to the regional grid and stimulate local economic growth through job creation.

In the education sector, solar energy adoption has reached a significant milestone. According to the nonprofit Generation180, more than 7 million K-12 students in the U.S. now attend schools powered by solar energy. This represents roughly one in seven students. The current solar capacity in these schools has reached 2.4 gigawatts, with 155 institutions utilizing battery storage systems, producing enough energy to potentially power over 450,000 homes.
