Solar energy projects approved and launched in the UK

A new solar carport installation at Scottish Water’s headquarters in Stepps, known as The Bridge, is expected to generate 0.87GWh of electricity annually. Delivered by OCS in partnership with Scottish Water Horizons, the 2,250-panel project will meet more than one-third of the site’s power requirements, provide enough energy for approximately 320 average UK homes, and reduce carbon emissions by roughly 160 tonnes per year.

Separately, a government has approved a major 500MW solar farm project combined with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Spanning approximately 1,200 hectares across the Milton Keynes and Northamptonshire areas, the development is estimated to produce enough electricity to meet the needs of 200,000 homes. The developer, Green Hill, has committed to a minimum 47% biodiversity net gain, which includes the creation of 14.4 hectares of green corridors and woodland, as well as over 50km of improved hedgerows.
