Solar energy projects expand in Australia and Comoros

Significant solar energy developments have been announced in Australia and Comoros. In Sydney, the New South Wales government is expanding the rooftop solar network at the International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney. Covering over 18,400 square metres across the Convention, Exhibition, and Entertainment Centres, the project is expected to generate 2.6 GWh of electricity annually. This expansion aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 2,000 tonnes per year and protect the venue from volatile energy prices.

In Comoros, three solar photovoltaic plants backed by United Arab Emirates entities have been inaugurated. Financed by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and implemented by Masdar, the US $22.98 million project has a combined capacity of approximately 20MW. The facilities, located on Grande Comore, Anjouan, and Mohéli, include battery energy storage systems and are expected to generate 33.75GWh of clean electricity annually. The project is designed to reduce dependence on imported diesel and avoid roughly 20,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
