Solar II, Mexican wrestling legend, dies at 66

Mexican wrestling legend Pedro Buenrostro Gómez, widely known as Solar II, has passed away at the age of 66. The news was confirmed by his brother, Solar I, and the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL).

Born in Zacoalco de Torres, Jalisco, Buenrostro began his professional career in 1975 under the tutelage of the legendary Diablo Velasco. He became a prominent figure in the ring, particularly known for his technical style and mastery of ground wrestling. Throughout his career, he performed under various personas, including Celeste, Tritón, and El Mariachi, before establishing his legacy as Solar II.

His career highlights include winning the NWA World Welterweight Championship in 1988 and successful mask-versus-mask matches against Enfermero Jr. in 1983 and Belcebú in 1985. He competed extensively for the Empresa Mexicana de Lucha Libre (EMLL) and CMLL, with Arena México serving as a primary venue for his most significant matches.

Following the announcement, CMLL held a tribute during a Sunday event at Arena México, where the audience and fellow wrestlers honored him with a minute of applause. The cause of death has not been officially disclosed.
