Solar protection glass becomes critical for building heat management
Due to climate change projections from the German Weather Service, building planners are increasingly focusing on holistic heat protection strategies to prevent indoor overheating. While modern insulating glass is effective at minimizing heat transfer in both directions, solar radiation can still enter buildings through large glass surfaces, potentially raising indoor temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius in summer.
Hannes Spiß, Managing Director of Isolar Glas Beratung and board member of the Bundesverband Flachglas, notes that rising energy costs, recurring heatwaves, and stricter regulatory requirements have created a turning point in how building materials like glass are evaluated. Effective planning must now balance winter heat retention with summer cooling needs to avoid the energy-intensive use of air conditioning.
