Solar PV Market Faces Pricing Risks and Record Module Orders
Enerdata hosted a webinar on the future of electricity prices, noting that the levelized cost of electricity for solar PV is stagnating or rising and that solar capture rates are falling as renewable penetration increases. The discussion highlighted the need for new financing models for PV projects, the shift in power purchase agreement (PPA) buyer profiles, and the impact of data‑centre and artificial‑intelligence power demand on long‑term price forecasts.
At the same time, major solar manufacturers announced more than 2 GW of overseas module orders. Trina Solar signed a memorandum for up to 1.5 GW of projects in the Middle East, JA Solar secured a 120 MWp supply contract for a Bhutan project, and Astronergy agreed to deliver 337 MW of modules to Bangladesh. UtmoLight also connected a perovskite rooftop PV system to the grid, underscoring the expanding range of PV technologies.
