Solar system evolution: Sun and Venus may have engulfed planetary bodies

New scientific research suggests that significant planetary consumption events shaped the early evolution of the solar system. One study proposes that the Sun swallowed a forming super-Earth, tentatively named Dev Dilek, during its youth. This hypothesis aims to resolve discrepancies in solar models, specifically regarding the speed of sound propagation beneath the convective zone and the Sun's chemical composition, which shows a relative lack of heavy metals and refractory elements compared to solar twins.

In a separate finding, researchers at the University of California, Riverside, have used simulations to explore why Venus lacks a moon despite its similarities to Earth. The research suggests that Venus may have destroyed and subsequently engulfed its own moon through destructive tidal forces, explaining the stark difference in satellite presence between the two planets.
