Solaris unveils Urbino 40 electric bus for North American market

Polish bus manufacturer Solaris Bus & Coach has officially entered the North American market with the world premiere of the Urbino 40 electric at the APTA TRANSform & EXPO in Chicago. The 40-foot battery-electric model was developed on a dedicated platform specifically to meet North American technical and operational requirements.

Technical specifications for the Urbino 40 electric include a battery capacity exceeding 500 kWh, a range of more than 150 miles, and a maximum speed of 65 mph. The vehicle features a Low Entry configuration, which includes a low-floor front passenger area followed by a raised rear section, adhering to industry standards in the region.

Solaris has already secured initial orders in the United States, including vehicles for King County Metro in Seattle and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency. While current orders will be manufactured at Solaris facilities in Poland, the company intends to establish U.S. production capacity by leveraging the existing manufacturing footprint of CAF’s rail facility in Elmira, New York.
