Soleá Morente discusses the link between music and literature

Artist and philology graduate Soleá Morente discussed the intrinsic connection between music and literature during a presentation at the Universidad Internacional de Andalucía (UNIA) in Baeza. Speaking at the ‘Poetry and Flamenco’ summer course, Morente emphasized that music and the written word are inseparable, stating that a composition is roughly 50 percent melody and 50 percent word.

Morente also noted a positive trend in reading habits within contemporary society. Regarding the evolution of flamenco, she observed a paradigm shift where experimentation and genre fusion, once considered avant-garde, have become part of tradition. She suggested that current innovation often involves returning to roots, such as the voice, guitar, and traditional singing, provided the work is grounded in honesty and truth.
