Samuel “Chiche” Gelblung dies at 82 after long media career

Argentine journalist and television host Samuel “Chiche” Gelblung has died at the age of 82. He passed away on Wednesday while receiving treatment for respiratory complications at the Sanatorio Mater Dei in Buenos Aires.

Gelblung had a career spanning over five decades, leaving a significant mark on Argentine print, radio, and television. He was widely recognized for his provocative and direct interviewing style, which often made him a central figure in national media debates. His most iconic television work included the 1990s program “Memoria,” which combined investigative journalism with social and political controversy.

Throughout his career, Gelblung served as a war correspondent, covering conflicts such as the Six-Day War and the Vietnam War. He also held leadership roles in prominent publications like Revista Gente. In his final months, despite facing several health challenges—including a thrombosis and the placement of stents—he remained professionally active and was reportedly preparing a new streaming project.

His death has drawn tributes from the journalistic and artistic communities, with officials in the Chamber of Deputies honoring his legacy as a dedicated and tireless professional.
