Solidariedade party considers merger with Avante

The Solidariedade party is evaluating strategic options to navigate Brazil’s electoral barrier clause, which requires a minimum percentage of votes to access party funds and free television and radio advertising time. During a national executive meeting led by president Paulinho da Força, leadership discussed two primary paths: a merger with the Avante party or joining the Renovação Solidária federation, which currently consists of Solidariedade and the Partido Renovação Democrática (PRD).

The push for reorganization follows a decline in representation; Solidariedade elected only two federal deputies in 2026, compared to four in 2022. While the federation with PRD was approved by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) in late 2025, the party faces pressure to consolidate to ensure political survival. A merger with Avante may also involve additional parties to expand the new political entity. Any final decision remains subject to approval by the national directories of the involved parties.
