Solidigm weighs US IPO with potential $150 billion valuation

Solidigm, the US-based NAND flash and SSD subsidiary of South Korea’s SK Hynix, is considering an initial public offering (IPO) in the United States as early as next year. The move could potentially become one of the largest semiconductor listings in US history.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the IPO could value the company at up to $150 billion and potentially raise as much as $15 billion in capital. Solidigm has reportedly begun a ‘bake-off’ process, holding pitch meetings with investment banks to select underwriters for the offering.

The strategic interest in Solidigm is driven by the surging demand for high-capacity enterprise solid-state drives (SSDs) used in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and data centers. The company has been developing advanced products, such as 122.88TB SSDs, to meet these needs.

SK Hynix originally acquired Intel’s NAND and SSD business for approximately $9 billion in 2020, leading to the launch of Solidigm as a standalone subsidiary in 2021. While the plans are in early stages and subject to market conditions, the listing would provide a standalone valuation for a critical component of SK Hynix’s storage portfolio.
