Solingen City Hall flooded following heavy rain
A significant water intrusion occurred at the Solingen City Hall on the evening of Wednesday, August 19, 2026, following heavy rainfall. The incident was triggered by a combination of ongoing maintenance work on the building's drainage system and intense, prolonged rain.
The water entered through the roof and flowed through a stairwell spanning four floors. The influx caused a short circuit in a fire detector, which initially triggered the building's automatic fire alarm at approximately 6:55 PM.
Emergency responders from the Solingen Fire Department, along with building technicians and roofers, worked for approximately two hours to contain the water. Technicians used submersible pumps on the flat roof and water vacuums inside the building to protect adjacent offices and prevent more extensive structural damage.
