Solingen commemorates victims of 2024 Islamist terror attack FAST-MOVING

Solingen held a memorial service to honor the victims of the Islamist terror attack that occurred on August 23, 2024. The attack took place during a concert celebrating 650 years of the city's rights at Fronhof Square, where the perpetrator, identified as Issa al H., a rejected Syrian asylum seeker, used a knife to attack spectators, specifically targeting the necks of visitors.

The attack resulted in three deaths and numerous injuries. During the memorial, church representatives and politicians gathered at the city church to commemorate the victims with music, candles, and a minute of silence.

Legal representative Simon Rampp noted that the incident has fundamentally changed the people of Solingen, with some victims struggling to return to their former lives while others face daily consequences of the trauma. Local officials and church leaders emphasized the lasting impact on the community and the strength shown by first responders.
