Multiple fires reported across Germany and Austria
Multiple residential and commercial fires have been reported across Germany and Austria, resulting in varying levels of casualties and property damage.
In Germany, a fatal fire in a multi-family house in Hoyerswerda left a 42-year-old man dead after he was found in an upper-floor apartment. In Gera, police are investigating a suspected arson after a fire in a residential building left eight people requiring medical treatment. In Karlsruhe, two 15-year-olds have been detained on suspicion of arson. Other incidents include a fire in a Mönchengladbach kebab shop, a storage box fire in Cottbus-Sandow, and a significant roof fire in Herbrechtingen that rendered a building uninhabitable with damages estimated at 500,000 euros. Additionally, a large-scale operation in Dillingen addressed a major fire at a riding stable involving straw bales.
In Austria, a major fire in Hirnsdorf, Styria, destroyed a large residential home. While all residents managed to escape unharmed, several cats perished in the blaze. Emergency services utilized over one kilometer of hoses to combat the flames.
