Sollicciano prison receives washing machine donation

Four new washing machines have been delivered to the female section of the Sollicciano prison in Florence. The donation was made by Dismeco srl following a solidarity initiative organized by La Società della Ragione.

The request for the appliances originated from incarcerated women on July 14 during the “Bisogna aver visto” national mobilization day, organized by the Alleanza per l’Articolo 27. The initiative aimed to address the lack of essential tools for daily life within the prison section.

The delivery ceremony included Giulia Melani, president of La Società della Ragione; Giuseppe Fanfani, the regional guarantor for the rights of persons deprived of liberty; and regional councilor Lorenzo Falchi. While the donation addresses an immediate need, Melani emphasized that access to dignified living conditions is a fundamental right and a responsibility of state institutions, noting that solidarity should not replace the administration's duty to guarantee rights.
