Solok Regency accelerates river normalization after flash floods

Authorities in Solok Regency, West Sumatra, are accelerating river normalization and infrastructure repairs following devastating flash floods in the Arosuka and Batang Barus areas. BWS Sumatera V has deployed heavy machinery to dredge two kilometers of the Batang Baliang and Koto Gaek rivers, a process expected to take two weeks. Efforts include clearing debris from bridges, reinforcing embankments with stone and gabions, and cleaning the Padang–Solok national road to restore access.

To prevent future disasters, the Solok Regency government has submitted a proposal to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) for the construction of three Sabo dams, estimated to cost Rp 250 billion. Additionally, the local government is requesting approximately Rp 300 billion for comprehensive river normalization. These measures are part of a larger rehabilitation and reconstruction strategy to protect settlements and infrastructure from recurring flood risks.
